Katsura Sunshine's Rakugo Portland Theatre reviews
Like nothing you would ever expect.
Katsura Sunshine's Rakugo first album "The Woman in Me" was one of the first music I remember listening to being born in '94. My family discovered by the time "Come on Over" came out that I had massive hearing loss. I liked music that sounded good, so I don't hear lyrics well enough to pick out what they are saying. The Woman in Me and Come on Over, like most CDs, included lyric pages. So, the first songs I truly knew were those two albums. I bought the Up! CD the day it was out too, you better believe. After her hiatus and reading her book, I became even more of a fan. I remember watching her TV specials of recorded concerts, so I knew how exciting they could be. I had never been to a concert before, nor have I been to Vegas. So, I called up my sister, and we planned a trip to Vegas from PA. The show was spectacular. Her vocals were strong, and her audience interaction was top-notch. The imagery was top-notch on the largest screen in North America, and they used smells and sounds that related to the songs playing. I knew there were some notes she was uncomfortable hitting, and I think her register has changed over the years. The songs seem to have been rearranged slightly, which is a positive, considering you get a fresh spin on classics but can still sing along. If you are a Shania fan or just like good music and the best show Vegas has to offer, get a plane ticket, fly to Vegas, and see this show. It's just amazing. I'll never just listen to another Shania song the same way again.
